GMG announces the production of their first graphene aluminium ion battery in cell format

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

On December 9, Australian based Graphene Manufacturing Group Ltd. (TSXV: GMG) (FSE: 0GF) ("GMG” or the "Company") announced that the pilot production and testing plant (“Battery Pilot Plant”) for its G+AI Batteries is now operational. GMG is a clean-tech firm located in Australia that manufactures graphene and hydrogen by breaking methane (natural gas) instead of mining graphite and is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV: GMG).

The G+AI Batteries are graphene aluminium-ion-batteries. They also announced that the first G+AI Batteries in coil cell format have been produced. In early 2022, more equipment to enable the production of G+AI Batteries in pouch pack cell type is planned to arrive.

"The commissioning of our Battery Pilot Plant is an important milestone for GMG. Not only will it allow us to develop, manufacture and test our own G+AI Battery coin cell and subsequently pouch packs in-house, it will also enable the Company to accelerate the commercial development of our G+AI Batteries, work with future customers and further build on our internal expertise. We also expect the Battery Pilot Plant to accelerate optimisation of our G+AI Battery prototypes, building on the encouraging results we have already achieved which are generating so much interest from prospective customers,” said GMG's Managing Director and CEO, Craig Nicol.

"Having our own manufacturing and testing capability also supports collaboration efforts with industry partners that continue to express strong interest in the initial performance results and future potential of G+AI Batteries. The lessons we learn from this process will be highly valuable as we work towards commercialisation of this technology," added Nicol.

GMG plans to build an initial commercial coin cell G+AI Battery manufacturing plant, followed by first production and sales of G+AI Batteries, as previously stated, pending successful commercial prototypes and a final investment decision. The site of this manufacturing plant is yet to be determined; however, it will most likely be in Australia, where GMG's headquarters and current activities are. GMG and Robert Bosch Australia Pty Ltd ("BOSCH") signed a non-binding Letter of Intent on October 25, 2021, with the intending to agree on the terms of formal agreements for BOSCH to design and build this manufacturing plant.

GMG's cash balance is now over US$15.6 million, indicating that the company is well-funded for the next stage of its expansion goals.
