Goldco® Security has recently been recognised as the National Security Screen Association (NSSA) Medium Business Winner for 2024, underscoring its leadership in the industry. As part of its commitment to sustainability and social responsibility, Goldco® has adopted Capral's LocAl® Super Green low-carbon aluminium for its Amplimesh® Security range. This move highlights Goldco®'s dedication to environmental stewardship and positions it at the forefront of sustainability in the security screen manufacturing sector.
{alcircleadd}Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium, produced using hydroelectric power, boasts an impressive low embodied carbon footprint of just 4kg CO2 per 1kg of aluminium. This makes it one of the most environmentally friendly primary aluminium options available. By incorporating this sustainable material, Goldco® Security is significantly reducing its environmental impact while upholding the highest product quality and performance standards.
"Our commitment to Capral's LocAl® Super Green aluminium is more than just a business decision; it reflects our core values. Sustainability and social responsibility are integral to our operations, and this move aligns perfectly with our commitment to positively impacting the environment and the community," said Anthony Bialocerkowski, Goldco®'s managing director.
Engagement with ecoBiz
As part of its comprehensive sustainability strategy, Goldco® Security has engaged with the ecoBiz program, a sustainability initiative led by the Business Chamber Queensland in collaboration with the Queensland Government. This program supports businesses in auditing their resource usage, managing carbon emissions, and minimising waste, water, and energy consumption.
At Goldco®'s facility in Miami, a thorough power utilisation audit was conducted, uncovering several areas for improvement. A targeted replacement program upgraded all lighting to energy-efficient options, aiming for a 10 per cent reduction in power consumption. Impressively, this initiative achieved a 19 per cent decrease in power usage from September 2023 to May 2024 compared to the previous year, resulting in a reduction of 700 kg in greenhouse gas emissions.
"Goldco® Security's adoption of our LocAl® Super Green aluminium sets a powerful example for the industry. It demonstrates that innovation and sustainability can go hand in hand, paving the way for a greener future," added Donna Dupuis, Goldco®'s Capral Account Manager.
Goldco's sustainable initiatives
In late 2023, Goldco® undertook a waste audit that significantly improved its recycling practices. The company expanded its recycling streams from three to five, incorporating cardboard recycling and a timber pallet return program. As a result, general waste was notably reduced, cutting the size of the general waste bin from 3m³ to 1.5m³ on a bi-weekly basis.
Additionally, Goldco® focused on water conservation by installing 5-star rated water taps throughout its facilities. Over a period of nine months, this change led to an average daily reduction of 124 litres of water use, which is 2.3 times less than the previous year.
These initiatives have a payback period of approximately 12 months, demonstrating their financial viability and substantial impact on reducing operational costs. By aligning with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals—specifically SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) and SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production)—Goldco® is advancing its economic sustainability while making a positive environmental impact.
