GZ Industries Limited has received ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) Certification for its facilities in Aba and Agbara, Nigeria, and Wadeville, South Africa, for manufacturing aluminium beverage cans for the food and beverage market. The company's three factories have a combined yearly manufacturing capacity of more than 3 billion cans and can produce a variety of sizes and forms. The Aba and Agbara facilities are Nigeria's first ASI Certifications. CETIZION Verifica conducted an impartial, third-party GZ Industries Limited business audit. The audit occurred before May 31, 2023, allowing for Performance Standard V2 certification.
James Judson, Group CEO at GZ Industries Ltd, said, "GZ Industries Ltd seeks to become Sub-Saharan Africa's leading supplier of aluminium beverage cans. A critical pillar of this vision is our commitment to the environment. As such, we are very excited to achieve Aluminium Stewardship Initiative certification, not only as confirmation of our own commitment to our stewardship of aluminium usage across our value chain but also for all that our ASI certificate signals to our customers, suppliers, and all other stakeholders. At GZI, we are committed to doing business only in a responsible manner, being transparent whilst protecting people and the environment. We remain committed towards the continual improvement of our sustainability practices and look forward to working closely with all involved with ASI."
The ASI Certification programme, established after intensive multi-stakeholder input, is the first complete voluntary sustainability standard project for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard V2 (2017) sets environmental, social, and governance principles and standards to address sustainability challenges across the aluminium value chain.
“We congratulate GZ Industries Limited on achieving ASI Performance Standard Certification at these three beverage can production facilities; the first to have achieved certification in Nigeria. The company’s focus on using recycled aluminium in the production of their beverage cans , recycling 100% of process scrap, as well as its community engagement initiatives to improve used beverage can collection rates are indicative of the company's commitment to material stewardship inside and outside its production plants. GZ Industries’ Performance Standard certification provides a roadmap to guide its continuous improvement for a wide range of ESG issues,” added Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI.
