The South African manufacturer of specialised rolled aluminium products, Hulamin, stationed in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal announced that it has restarted operations after unrest tormented the country.
{alcircleadd}On 12th July 2021, the world's ultra-high-end aluminium products maker suspended its operations after the nationwide unrest following the arrest of former President Jacob Zuma.
In the latest update, Hulamin said: “Property loss had been limited to the theft of a few small non-critical items and minor damage to infrastructure.”
However, the group further added that from 16th July 2021, the company resumed its operations.
The company said to its shareholders: “A sense of calm prevails as Pietermaritzburg gradually returns to normal. The company acknowledges and appreciates the efforts made by government and the security cluster in restoring law and order, and extends its gratitude to employees and community members for their contribution and support to local clean-up operations.”
In April 2021, the aluminium company reported Covid-19 pandemic triggered a major disruption to its operations, while the sales volume plunged by 24% to 166,000 tonnes in the year to the end of December’20.
Despite stronger prices at the London Metals Exchange, the group’s turnover fell by 20% to R8.55 billion, while its headline loss improved to R210 million compared to R240m reported last year.
