Hydro’s aluminium extrusion plant in Suzhou is the company’s first Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) performance standard-certified aluminium extrusion firm in China. The firm located in Shanghai's Suzhou Industrial Park roughly employs 350 workers and has undergone multiple expansion projects, the most recent of which is a NOK 390 million investment, since its inception in 2004.
{alcircleadd}When it opens in mid-2023, the new extrusion press will service China's automotive and electric vehicle markets and create roughly 75 new jobs. The ASI certification encourages responsible production, sourcing, and handling of aluminium. It also covers the plant's extrusion operations, die shop, anodizing process, and value-added processes.
“This is really something special for the team. It reflects collaboration between our departments and an outstanding group of dedicated and customer-minded employees – with an emphasis on outstanding,” says Jeff Lehman, VP of Hydro Precision Tubing Asia.
The Suzhou facility produces extruded aluminium tubes and profiles for clients in the automotive, HVACR, marine, and industrial industries, both locally and globally. Its products, which include drawn precision tubes, inner-grooved tubes, multi-port extrusions, and extruded profiles, are utilised in HVAC systems and other heating/cooling solutions.
“I’m thrilled for our employees and happy for our customers. Doing business the right way is what our company is all about,” says Paul Warton, EVP responsible for Hydro Extrusions.
Hydro Extrusions is the company's main division, providing customised aluminium components and solutions to a wide range of sectors, including automotive, mass transit, building and construction, electronics, offshore, and marine. Globally, the business area services over 30,000 consumers.
