Hydro has planned to invest heavily in Alumetal's recycling facility, and this will be the first such instance after the Norwegian aluminium giant took over the company. This new investment will be crucial in switching the prevailing furnaces and ingot casting units with the latest, ultra-advanced equipment that would amplify the growth while keeping an eye on safety protocols and increased efficiency.
{alcircleadd}The Executive Vice President of Hydro Aluminium Metal, Eivind Kallevik, seemed optimistic about the new decision and commented: "We are pleased to have Alumetal as part of the Hydro family. We have been impressed by the achievements of the Alumetal organization. In Alumetal, we see a good fit with Hydro's ambitious strategy for growth in recycling. This investment confirms our intention to develop and grow the business further."
The acquisition process for Alumetal was completed by Hydro on June 30 this year. After the passing of a tender and the successive squeeze-out process, Hydro is now the proud owner of 100 per cent of Alumetal's shares. With the acquisition of this Polish aluminium recycling company, Hydro has leapt towards a grand pedestal in the aluminium recycling sector. The Norwegian recycler was already recycling post-consumer scrap to yield low-carbon aluminium, but after this brilliant move, its recycling capacity is set to increase, providing the European market with scrap-based foundry alloy and green aluminium.
The CEO of Alumetal, AgnieszkaDrzyżdżyk, stated: "We are very happy that Hydro shows their belief in our organization by investing in this important project. We look forward to contributing to Hydro's recycling journey through our competency and capabilities in the recycling of aluminium scrap materials and to continue on our strong growth journey as part of one of the largest and leading global aluminium companies in the world."
The newly refurbished and state-of-the-art recycling facility has been scheduled to be operational by the first half of 2025. If you are intrigued to learn more about the aluminium recycling sector, please have a look at AL Circle's detailed report on Aluminium Dross Processing.
