Hydro has joined the newly introduced "green" supplier database of the First Movers Coalition (FMC), playing a role in empowering the world's most ambitious companies to pursue climate action. Recognized for its ground-breaking low-carbon aluminium, Hydro stands out among the esteemed suppliers, boasting a carbon footprint significantly lower than one-fourth of the global industry average.
{alcircleadd}"To accelerate the green transition, the way we produce materials must change. It matters where and how materials are produced, and that is why initiatives like the First Suppliers Hub are crucial to simplify the access to low-carbon technologies and materials needed to enable true decarbonisation of society," said Hydro President and CEO Hilde Merete Aasheim.
Present at the Davos gathering, Hydro is actively engaging in discussions focused on reshaping the landscape of materials production. A pivotal aspect of Hydro's commitment to driving the green transition is its active participation in the First Movers Coalition (FMC).
Hydro has been accredited as a supplier of its most environmentally friendly primary aluminium variant, Hydro REDUXA 3.0. With a carbon footprint already surpassing the industry norm by being less than one-fourth of the global average of 16.7 kg CO2e/kg aluminium, Hydro remains committed to advancing sustainability. The company aims to achieve a further 25 per cent reduction in its carbon footprint by 2030.
"We are excited to set a new standard for low-carbon aluminium. This is, however, only one of many steps needed to reach the ultimate target of zero-emission aluminium. For the green transition to be truly sustainable, the material building blocks of society must be decarbonized as well. Hydro's ambition is to change the game for aluminium. We will do this by pioneering the green aluminium transition," added Aasheim.
About First Suppliers Hub
The First Suppliers Hub is a global repository showcasing cutting-edge technologies and suppliers committed to or planning to meet the rigorous thresholds set by the First Movers Coalition (FMC) across heavy-emitting sectors. This hub is crucial for organisations transitioning from mere commitments to tangible actions.
This global database is a comprehensive resource featuring suppliers and their projects related to innovative and emerging technologies. The primary goal of this hub is to streamline the process for organisations as they transition from making climate commitments to implementing impactful actions, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and environmentally conscious future. The First Suppliers Hub was officially launched during the World Economic Forum's (WEF) annual meeting in Davos on January 16.
