Welcome to Day 2 of the 11th International IBAAS Conference & Exhibition (IBAAS-JNARDDC 2023) – Nagpur, India, a much-awaited event to experience the upstream aluminium industry. The event, studded with aluminium industry leaders, experts, and enthusiasts, marks the end of 2023 with great learnings about the latest innovations and advancements in the upstream aluminium sector.
From the first day itself, the event has offered some incredibly engaging and enlightening sessions led by industry stalwarts. The opening session of Day 1 was conducted by Dr Anupam Agnihotri, Director of JNARDDC, who elaborated on the topic: Decarbonisation of Indian Aluminium Sector-Way Forward. In his presentation, he highlighted the need for decarbonisation, underpinning that a 40 percent increase in primary aluminium production using green energy is needed. He also spoke about the decarbonisation of the Indian aluminium industry for CBAM, stating that 56 per cent of primary aluminium produced in India is exported and the European Union is India's second-largest primary aluminium trading partner. His presentation indicated that aluminium accounted for as much as 29 per cent of the total $74.8 billion of merchandise exports from India to the EU during FY2023.
According to Dr Agnihotri, India must achieve 100 per cent end of life collection and sorting, introduce zero-waste policy, and follow E-waste management and handling rules to decarbonise the industry.
Day 1 of IBAAS conference was also spotted by enriching presentations by Mr S. Kanakanand, President & Head Mfg CoE of Hindalco Industries Limited, on "Sustainable Aluminium Manufacturing", by Mr Yves Ocello, Director, Amber Development, France, on "Developments in Alumina Technology and Future Directions", by Dr Amit Chatterjee, Chief Research and Development Officer, Vedanta, on "Innovations and Technology Interventions-Key to Sustainability of Aluminium", and many others.
There were also paper presentations by Tokai COBEX GmbH, Germany; AKW Apparate + VerfahrenGmbH, Germany; Nalco Water India Ltd, India; Ashapura, India; STC-Engineering India; SpectraFlow Analytics AG; and Alumina Chemicals and Castables on Day 1.
Today, we are attending Day 2, initiated by the Chairman Session on the Introduction of Bauxite-Alumina. The itinerary contains presentations by Mr Thomas Baumann on "Wet Beneficiation for High Silica Bauxite – Technical Aspects and Flowsheets in Worldwide Projects", by Mr BN Srivastava "Elemental Analysis of Bauxite and Its Process Products by X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer", by Ms Rosalin Pradhan from Vedanta Alumina on "Bauxite Beneficiation – Sustainable Solution for Aluminium Industry", and Mr B P Misra on "Beyond Filtration: How Paste Thickening of Bauxite Tailings Redefines Tailings Storage".
The event will also host Mr Humayun Shaikh from Remi Process Plant & Machinery Ltd., India; Mr Swapnil Ghatage, Senior Scientist, Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company (P) Ltd; Mr Nayan Kumar Assistant Manager (Alumina Segment) Global Mining & Mineral Processing; Mr Preetam Routray Senior Sales Manager - Global Sales - BL MCP, Metso, Germany; and Mr Debasish Tripathy, Assistant Manager, Alumina Operations, Hindalco Industries Limited.
