The Life Science Centre, a vibrant science hub in Newcastle upon Tyne, has unveiled a new immersive exhibit dedicated to recycling. Created by the not-for-profit organization Every Can Counts, the Infinity Room installation offers visitors a unique and engaging experience.

As Life celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, the award-winning science centre continues to inspire curiosity and excitement about the world. The Infinity Room highlights the importance of recycling drink cans while showcasing the infinite recyclability of aluminium, making it an educational and interactive attraction for visitors of all ages.
Chris Latham-Warde, Programme Manager at Every Can Counts, stated, "The aim of the exhibit is to raise awareness of the infinite recyclability of aluminium in a visual and interactive way. Every empty can could be recycled and back on a shop shelf as a brand-new can in just 60 days and each of us can play a vital role in keeping the cycle going to benefit the environment. With the exhibit on display until October this year, we hope that visitors to Life Science Centre are left feeling inspired to make small changes to their recycling habits and will encourage their friends and family to do the same."
A giant drink can
At the heart of the exhibit stands a giant drink can. Visitors who step inside are immersed in a mirrored room that creates the illusion of being surrounded by an endless sea of suspended aluminium cans. A narrator guides them through an informative journey on the process of recycling aluminium cans and its positive impact on the environment. The exhibit comprises 1,500 recycled aluminium cans and 25 square meters of mirrors, creating a striking visual experience. Visitors are encouraged to capture and share their moments in the Infinity Room on social media using the hashtag #EveryCanCounts.
Responsible citizens of Newcastle
Recent research by Every Can Counts has revealed insights into people's recycling habits in Newcastle. On average, residents enjoy four canned drinks per week, with respondents recycling 80 per cent of these cans. Just over half (53 per cent) of those surveyed reported always using recycling bins when out in public, while only a quarter (25 per cent) said they would take packaging home to recycle if no bins were available.

Additionally, 90 per cent of participants believe there should be better recycling facilities in public parks, and 84 per cent think more should be done to educate young people about the importance of recycling.
Every Can Counts is a distinctive collaboration between drink can manufacturers, fillers, and the broader recycling industry, all working towards achieving a 100 per cent recycling rate for drink cans. The program offers free recycling support to businesses and organizations across the UK.
