InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa has adopted the Mission Pacific Program to decrease the level of carbon dioxide throughout its business chain by responsibly collecting PET bottles or aluminium cans for recycling. Mission Pacific was launched by Coca-Cola Amatil (Fiji) Pte Ltd (CCAF) in 1999.
{alcircleadd}The resort authorities wanted to ensure the used bottles and aluminium cans from their compound were directed to a proper recycling facility rather than ending up in landfills.
The rules of the Mission Pacific Program demand PET and aluminium waste to be collected separately in huge trash bags, which the organisation then takes away to their primary Bottle Buy Back Centre in Kinoya for sorting and recycling purposes.
The Area General Manager – of South Pacific, Lachlan Walker, notified how proud they were to have partnered with Mission Pacific to advertise recycling and sustainable habits in Fiji. Walker is optimistic about leaving a great mark on the environment and the local community being the path shower since he believes each action is necessary and nothing goes to waste.
He explained that by sorting and collecting the PET bottles and aluminium cans, they were at least trying to decimate the carbon footprints the hotel leaves behind each year. He says this move is crucial for the small community in Fiji since it might give rise to similar endeavors, transforming the island into a sustainable, green one.
Walker went on to claim that InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort and Spa is not only interested in igniting the need for sustainability but also going to work relentlessly on the growth of their workers, educating them about rewardable behavior through the Mission Pacific Program.
Mission Pacific will refund the resort for each PET bottle or aluminium can collected through the spot.
