Making progress towards its goal of achieving carbon neutrality across the entirety of its manufacturing supply chain and all stages of product life cycles by the year 2030, Apple has successfully reduced GHG emissions for both its iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus with 128GB by 30 per cent compared to the projected business-as-usual scenario, as modelled by Apple.

iPhone 16 contains 85% recycled aluminium

This device features over 30 per cent recycled materials, including 85 per cent recycled aluminium in the enclosure, which has lowered total product emissions by around 8 per cent. Additionally, the company is also collaborating with suppliers to shift towards using 100 per cent low-carbon electricity for its production.

"The low-carbon electricity solutions that suppliers have already implemented to date have reduced product emissions by 20 per cent. In our carbon footprint calculations, we also account for the emissions necessary to generate low-carbon electricity, specifically to manufacture and maintain renewable energy infrastructure, like wind and solar farms," added the company.

Additionally, the device incorporates 100 per cent recycled tungsten and rare earth elements in its magnets. Apple aims to use 100 per cent recycled cobalt in batteries by 2025. The packaging for the iPhone 16 is now entirely fibre-based, with plastic limited to coatings and inks. This change is a significant step toward Apple's commitment to eliminating all plastic from its packaging by 2025.

Apple's thrive to adopt low-carbon electricity

Apple is also driving its suppliers to adopt low-carbon electricity, which now represents over 30 per cent of the manufacturing energy used. This transition to renewable energy has led to a 20 per cent reduction in product emissions, reinforcing Apple's goal of a more sustainable supply chain. Through these initiatives, Apple demonstrates its ongoing dedication to enhancing product longevity and increasing the use of recycled materials.

The iPhone 16 Pro showcases a Grade 5 titanium design with a sleek, micro-blasted finish. Titanium's exceptional strength-to-weight ratio makes these models both incredibly durable and remarkably lightweight. Available in four stunning colours, including the new Desert Titanium, the iPhone 16 Pro offers a striking look.

Internal upgrades, such as a thermal substructure made from 100 per cent recycled aluminium and optimized back glass for improved heat dissipation, boost sustained performance by up to 20 per cent compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. This means you can enjoy high-intensity activities, like gaming, for longer.
