According to the Iranian Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) data, Iran’s aluminium ingot production during the calendar year 1401 (ended March 20, 2023) stood at 632,166 tonnes.
On a year-on-year calculation, Iran’s primary aluminium output edged an increase of 17.36 per cent from 538,633 tonnes, showed IMIDRO. In the preceding year, Iran’s aluminium ingot output had reflected a rise of 20 per cent.
Among the country’s four major producers, South Aluminum Corporation (SALCO) produced the highest aluminium ingot of 270,185 tonnes, followed by Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO)’s output of 178,077 tonnes. Almahdi Aluminum Company produced 147,749 tonnes, and Iran Alumina Company churned 36,155 tonnes of aluminium ingot.
IMIDRO data indicated that Iran’s aluminium ingot production had been growing for the past three years. In 1399, the country’s aluminium ingot output grew by 60.54 per cent Y-o-Y from 278,318 tonnes to 446,836 tonnes. The year next, it improved further by 20 per cent and then 17 per cent in the past year.
The above data also suggests that Iran’s aluminium ingot production has been growing each year but at a slower rate.
In 1401, SALCO beat Iranian Aluminum Company (IRALCO) and emerged as the highest producer, whereas, in 1400, the latter recorded the best performance than the other three producers, churning out 177,058 tonnes. SALCO produced 173,594 tonnes in 1400, followed by 150,738 tonnes by Almahdi Aluminum Company and 37,243 tonnes by Iran Alumina Company.
At present, Iran is the world's 18th largest aluminum-producing country.
