On the occasion of Stockholm Design Week, Fredrik Paulsen, a Swedish designer, created the new 'Chair One' for his Stockholm-based company Joy Objects. The chair was re-released in a limited edition for Très Bien to coincide with the brand's newly renovated home in London's Soho.
The new chairs were made by Paulsen using aluminium and medium-density fibreboard, rejecting traditional Scandinavian minimalism in favour of maximalist colour schemes. The three chair designs in the series come in vibrant colours that work well in various settings, from the dining room to the living room.
Throughout the entire series, they use vibrant hues in unusual colour pairings like red/pink, mustard/pink, and baby blue/royal blue. Frederik Paulsen, the founder of JOY Objects, painted the bench in Snow White and Chartreuse Yellow for Très Bien.
Paulsen's distinctive yet humorous design philosophy is beautifully encapsulated in a blend of minimalism, maximalism, and a dash of brutalism, with the occasional use of a vivid colour scheme with psychedelic overtones.
"The idea for the collaboration came in conjunction with a commission we did for the Swedish Nobel Prize Museum. I had two ideas for colorways [for them] and when they decided to go for the more 'sober' one we decided to do the other one anyway because we thought it would be perfect for Tres Bien," said Fredrik Paulsen.
