As part of a joint venture, Gränges and Shandong Innovation Metal (group) Technology are on the go for constructing a recycling and casting facility in Yunnan, a hydropower-rich area in China. However, it has also been confirmed that the joint venture has secured access to low-carbon primary aluminium through energy-efficient delivery from a nearby smelter and renewable energy for casting operations.

On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced that it welcomed Shandong Yuhang Special Alloy Equipment Co., Ltd as the new Production and Transformation member. The company's top-selling items are all types of industrial profiles made of aluminium and aluminium alloy, such as those used in rail transit, aerospace, automotive, power equipment, ships, containers, building templates, high-end electronic profiles, high-strength forged bars, and other premium aluminium alloy extruded profiles and precision machined parts.
Tianshan Aluminium Group, China’s second-largest aluminium producer by capacity, will reportedly invest US$1.6 billion to build an alumina refinery in the Riau Islands, Indonesia. Since Indonesia is rich in bauxite and coal and has low labour costs, building a plant here can improve Tianshan’s supply of raw materials. The plant will have an annual capacity of 2 million tonnes. But initially, it will produce 1 million tonnes of aluminium oxide a year, requiring an investment of US$952 million. However, the construction schedule is not yet revealed.

On March 15, 2023, Alcoa Corp's Australian unit announced that aluminium production at its Portland smelter in Victoria would be reduced to about 75 per cent of its total capacity of 358,000 tonnes per year due to instability and production challenges. Alcoa’s operations in Australia are countering several challenges in recent times, from bauxite mining expansion projects to water supply at its facility and also supply challenges at its alumina refinery.

Glencore Plc is prepared to back out of a $16 billion agreement to purchase aluminium from Rusal, Russia's top producer, to separate itself from one of its main competitors. As per Gary Nagle, CEO of Glencore, the firm won't extend a contract with Rusal International when it expires next year following its stance of refraining from conducting any new business with Russia.

Czinger Vehicles Inc., a Los Angeles-based automobile manufacturer of hybrid sports cars, launched a 3D printed automotive gearbox case which the company claimed as the world’s first. In collaboration with UK automotive engineering firm Xtrac, Czinger used topology optimization software to design the gearbox case and printed it in a proprietary aluminium alloy.

Hydro Wicona will supply zero-carbon aluminium to a construction project in Europe. Titled the Innovationsbogen project in Augsburg, Wicona will provide doors, window, and curtain walling profiles made from recycled post-consumer aluminium. By the fourth quarter of this year, construction on the Augsburg building project is expected to be finished.
