To bolster UAE's industrial prowess, KEZAD Group and Automotive Precision Technology (APT), a subsidiary of Al Ghurair Group, have signed a lease agreement for a cutting-edge automotive aluminium component manufacturing facility. The 30,000 sq meters facility, set to operate by early 2025, will be located adjacent to Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), positioning it as a critical player in the global aluminium supply chain.
The signing ceremony, attended by His Excellency Omar Al Suwaidi, marks a significant milestone in industrial partnerships. Suwaidi is the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology. This collaboration aligns seamlessly with the 'Make it in the Emirates' campaign and the National Strategy for Industry and Advanced Technology. The goal is to enhance the UAE's industrial ecosystem, fostering export growth and global supply-demand equilibrium.
Strategic location and economic impact
The facility's strategic location within KEZAD, alongside EGA, positions it as a vital component in Abu Dhabi's growing capabilities in high-tech manufacturing. KEZAD Group's infrastructure, including speciality corridors like the Hot Metal road, facilitates cost-effective transportation of molten aluminium from EGA to the APT facility. This not only leads to adequate financial savings but also underlines the commitment to environmentally conscious manufacturing.
CEO insights - A call for a greener automotive sector in the UAE
Aron Majgier, CEO of APT, emphasises the company's mission to contribute to global sustainability by innovating aluminium extrusion for safer, lightweight, and greener automotive components. APT aims to become an international supplier of choice to the automotive industry, leveraging the reliable supply of premium quality aluminium from EGA and Gulf Extrusions' extrusion capabilities.
Support from Government entities
The APT project has garnered strong support from federal and local government entities, aligning with the Make It in the Emirates program. Iyad Malas, CEO of Al Ghurair Group, expresses gratitude to various government entities, including the UAE Ministry of Industries and Advanced Technology, KEZAD, and IDB, for their proactive support in making the project a reality.
Al Ghurair Group's legacy
Al Ghurair Group, a prominent player in the UAE's downstream aluminium industry since 1976, has continuously invested in the sector. Gulf Extrusions, established in Jebel Ali in 1976 and expanded to KEZAD in 2017, highlights the group's commitment to the industry, boasting a combined capacity of 70,000mt per year.
The collaboration between KEZAD Group and APT marks a milestone in the UAE's journey towards becoming a hub for advanced manufacturing. This state-of-the-art aluminium manufacturing facility not only strengthens the automotive value chain but also aligns with global trends in sustainability. As the UAE keeps on diversifying its economy, this venture contributes significantly to its industrial growth.
