The London-based brand first entered the travel retail market in 2023, introducing lightweight and space-saving aluminium bottles designed explicitly for airline service. Their sustainable approach gained further momentum in March 2024, when select products were incorporated into the in-flight menus of British Airways and easyJet.
David Mills, founder of Sustainaholics, commented, "We're delighted to see our 100% recycled aluminis now available in UK airport duty free stores. It gives us a wonderful opportunity to showcase the spirits industry's commitment to sustainable innovation here in London, one of aviation's most important global hubs."
Founder David Mills emphasised the benefits of the aluminium bottles, noting that they are crafted entirely from post-consumer recycled materials, weigh 90% less than glass, and cut carbon emissions by up to 90% compared to traditional glass and PET bottles. "Designed to be both shatterproof and ultra-compact, they offer exceptional efficiency for travel," Mills explained.
The company initially launched its "Alumini" collection in 2023, featuring spirits in 5cl bottles made entirely from recycled aluminium. Designed to meet airlines' space and weight constraints, the innovative packaging earned Sustainaholics multiple awards for innovation and sustainability in 2023 and 2024.
"We need to see a far more rapid and urgent adoption of the lower impact alternative packaging formats that now exist for spirits, moving away from an entirely avoidable dependence on the high impact choices of heavy, energy-intensive glass or single-use PET plastic that continue to dominate a travel industry that should be taking a far stronger lead than it does today," added David Mills.
