SAG México, a prominent Tier 1 supplier of lightweight components for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in North America, operates two advanced production facilities in Tlalnepantla and Monterrey, employing over 470 skilled professionals. In response to rising demand, SAG México has secured major additional orders worth over 30 million euros in recent months.
Renowned for producing high-quality aluminium parts, including fuel tanks, compressed air tanks, and air reservoirs for heavy and medium-duty trucks and internal combustion engine (ICE) SUVs, SAG México recently achieved sales of approximately 80 million euros. With the automotive industry increasingly turning to aluminium for its benefits, SAG México is poised for significant growth.
The company plans to expand further with a third site dedicated to producing bespoke aluminium components through die casting and rheocasting processes, expected to be operational by 2025. This strategic expansion underscores SAG México's commitment to meeting the needs of leading commercial vehicle and electric car OEMs in North America.
SAG México's strategic location near major OEMs and expertise in developing tailor-made products have attracted numerous satisfied customers, reflected in the company's multiple accolades. Hector Nuñez, Managing Director of SAG México, highlighted the company's seventh "Master of Quality Award" from Daimler Truck North America, demonstrating the high standards and reliability of SAG's products.
Hector Nuñez, asserted: "With our strategic location close to the major OEMs and our extensive know-how in the development of tailor-made products that bring more ease to vehicle construction, we have already been able to attract many satisfied customers who appreciate the quality of our products and our flexibility in logistics. This is also reflected in the fact that this year we have won the 'Master of Quality Award' from our customer Daimler Truck North America for the seventh time."
Aluminium's advantages in vehicle construction are manifold. Its excellent corrosion resistance, recyclability, and lightweight nature make it ideal for reducing vehicle weight by up to 40%, leading to lower fuel consumption and reduced carbon emissions for ICE vehicles or extended range for electric vehicles. These benefits drive the increasing demand for aluminium components, reinforcing SAG México's leading position in the market.
"All in all, the use of aluminium brings many advantages that are motivating more and more OEMs to use more of it in vehicle construction and thus the demand for us as a renowned manufacturer of lightweight components is continuously increasing. With the expansion of our capacities and production capabilities at a third site in Mexico, this trend will be taken into account in the near future," added Hector Nuñez.
Tracing its roots to Salzburger Aluminium AG, founded in 1898, SAG Group employs around 1,100 people across nine locations in six countries, including Austria, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Spain, Mexico, and the USA. As a global supplier to major OEMs, SAG's product portfolio includes lightweight components, air accumulators, and cryogenic tanks for LNG and LH2.
The CEO of SAG Group, Karin Exner-Wöhrer, commented: "The huge market in North America, which we supply from our sites in Mexico, offers enormous potential. With our products, we can offer vehicle manufacturers a big step towards CO2 reduction. This is a factor that is also becoming increasingly important in the USA. The signs are therefore pointing to expansion for us in Mexico."
The company's pioneering work in rheocasting and its numerous climate-protection patents have earned it the "Leading Innovator" award at the GreenTech Awards for three consecutive years.
