LME aluminium price graph shows M-o-M surge of US$63.5/t; SHFE aluminium price augments US$64/t M-o-M, down 0.54% today

LME aluminium opened at US$2,224 per tonne last Friday, with its high and low at US$2,224 per tonne and US$2,205 per tonne respectively before closing at US$2,239 per tonne, an increase of US$15 per tonne or 0.7 per cent from the previous trading day.

On August 4, London Metal Exchange reported that the aluminium cash bid price surged by US$17.50 per tonne or 0.81 per cent to halt at US$2,164 per tonne and the LME aluminium official settlement price spiked by US$19 per tonne or 0.88 per cent to close at US$2,166 per tonne.

LME aluminium live price chart shows a Month-on-Month escalation of US$63.50 per tonne or 3.02 per cent if we consider the aluminium cash price on July 4, which was US$2,102.50 per tonne. 

LME 3-month bid price jumped by US$17 per tonne or 0.77 per cent, settling down at US$2,210 per tonne, and LME 3-month offer price gained US$16 per tonne or 0.73 per cent to halt at US$2,211 per tonne. 

December 24 bid price and December 24 offer price both levitated by US$20 per tonne or 0.84 per cent to anchor at US$2,383 per tonne and US$2,388 per tonne.

LME aluminium opening stock stood at 503325 tonnes, with fall of 1,775 tonnes or 0.35 per cent.

Live warrants and Cancelled warrants settled at 277675 tonnes and 225650 tonnes, the first with a drop of 0.92 per cent or 2575 tonnes and the latter with 0.35 per cent or 800 tonnes added to it.  

LME aluminium 3-month Asian Reference Price stood at US$2,223.49 tonnes after recording an increase of US$6.66 per tonne or 0.3 per cent. 

Outlook 2023

SHFE aluminium price

Today, on August 7, the aluminium benchmark price at the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) has slumped by US$14 per tonne or 0.54 per cent to reach US$2,575 per tonne.

On a Month-on-Month perspective, there is a hike of US$64 per tonne or 2.55 per cent in the SHFE aluminium price, if compared with the price recorded on July 7, when it was US$2,511 per tonne.

Last Friday night, the most-traded SHFE 2309 aluminium contract opened at RMB 18,460 per tonne, with the lowest and highest prices at RMB 18,440 per tonne and RMB 18,530 per tonne before closing at RMB 18,520 per tonne, up RMB 15 per tonne or 0.08 per cent from the previous trading day.

SHFE 2307 aluminium added RMB 595 per tonne or 3.38 per cent to RMB 18,185 per tonne. The open interest fell 11,785 lots to 256,640 lots.
