The single largest rolling mill producing aluminium sheet for beverage cans in North America, Logan Aluminum Inc., has announced significant changes in its executive team. Steven Clarke has been appointed as the new President/CEO, while Jason Goodman will take on the role of Plant Manager, effective October 1, 2024.
Clarke and Goodman will succeed Mike Buckentin and Paul Banks, respectively, who are retiring after a distinguished tenure. Clarke, previously with Logan Aluminum, will now oversee all facets of the company’s operations.
Logan Aluminum employs over 1,400 team members and is renowned for its commitment to safety, quality, productivity, cost-efficiency, and corporate culture.
Under Clarke’s leadership, the company aims to continue its industry-leading performance and build on the legacy established over its first 40 years. Jason Goodman, stepping into the role of Plant Manager, will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing operational excellence at the facility.
The leadership transition marks a new chapter for Logan Aluminum, which seeks to sustain its position at the forefront of the aluminium industry.
“We all play a role in laying the path for success for the next 40 years,” shared Clarke.
Clarke began his role as President Designate at Logan Aluminum in July 2024. With a distinguished 30-year career, he previously dedicated the majority of his tenure to Novelis, Inc., a joint venture partner of Logan Aluminum. At Novelis, Clarke's most recent position was Vice President of Operations Excellence in Zurich, Switzerland. His extensive experience at Novelis spanned various domains, including supply chain management, safety, engineering, and general management. Clarke holds a Bachelor's degree with Honors in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Wolverhampton and a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Business Management from the University of Warwick, both in the UK.
Jason Goodman will oversee Logan Aluminum's operational business units as Plant Manager.
He said, "Relying on our foundational principles, which encourage ownership, participation, and accountability, our team members are driving the improvements that will sustain Logan Aluminum's position as an industry leader."
Goodman credits his successful career at Logan Aluminum to the Company's culture of developing and promoting from within. Goodman is carrying on his father's legacy, who also had a long career at Logan. Goodman started as an Operating Technician in the Hot Mill. Through an on-the-job technical training program, Goodman became a Maintenance Technician. He later obtained his Bachelor's in Industrial Technology from Western Kentucky University while working full-time. Goodman served in operational and engineering leadership roles before being promoted to Business Unit Manager. Most recently, Goodman was the manufacturing manager for Cold Mills and Finishing.
Clarke and Goodman are stepping into the shoes of Logan Aluminum's current President and CEO, Mike Buckentin, and current Plant Manager, Paul Banks. Buckentin, who took over as Logan Aluminum’s President in 2017 after a distinguished career in top executive positions within the metals industry, shared his sentiments about the company's unique culture and the dedication of its team members. His departure marks the beginning of a new chapter at Logan Aluminum.
Banks' entire 35-year career has been devoted to Logan Aluminum and Novelis. Like Goodman, he started as an operator and rose to Plant Manager positions at the Novelis green field start-up in Guthrie, KY. Since 2021, he has been the Plant Manager at Logan Aluminum.
"As I transition into retirement, I am optimistic about the future of our plant under its new leadership. Logan Aluminum has a proud legacy of excellence fostered by teamwork and innovation. I am confident that Logan will continue to thrive, providing top-tier, sustainable aluminium to our valued customers. With our dedicated, high-performing teams and leadership, I know Logan is well-positioned to continue its history of success."
