Malaysia’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States edged 4,500 tonnes or 13.98 per cent higher month-on-month to 36,700 tonnes in February 2021, found the US Geological Survey data. In January, Malaysia imported 32,200 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US, down by 4,200 tonnes or 11.54 per cent from 36,400 tonnes in December 2020.
{alcircleadd}The USGS data also found that Malaysia’s aluminium scrap imports from the US increased year-on-year in February 2021 by 63.11 per cent from 22,500 tonnes.
In the first two months of 2021, Malaysia’s total aluminium scrap imports from the US amounted to 68,900 tonnes – 40.61 per cent higher than 49,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
Malaysia’s total aluminium imports (including aluminium crude metals and alloys and aluminium plates, sheets and bars) from the US in February 2021 stood at 37,100 tonnes, up 13,700 tonnes or 58.55 per cent year-on-year from 23,400 tonnes.
The United States total aluminium scrap exports during January-February 2021 came in at 313,000 tonnes, up 19,000 tonnes or 6.46 per cent from 294,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
