EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Maxion Wheels' light vehicle aluminium wheel plant in Chihuahua, Mexico, has begun sourcing power from its newly operational solar farm, marking a significant milestone in its sustainability efforts. The solar farm, which was inaugurated during a recent kickoff event, was installed by Iberdrola México and has a capacity of 499 kW, with an expected annual energy generation of 960 MWh.

Commitment to emission reduction

This addition to the plant's energy mix highlights Maxion's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and advancing environmentally responsible manufacturing practices. Maxion's Chihuahua solar project is the company's third solar initiative and a key component of its sustainability strategy, Roadmap Zero, which aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.

"This solar farm represents more than just a new energy source – it embodies our dedication to sustainability and our promise to make a meaningful impact in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. As we work toward net-zero emissions by 2040, renewable energy projects like this will be essential to transforming our operations and creating a lasting, positive change," said Zeferino Neto, Business Unit President, Americas, Maxion Wheels.

The solar farm is expected to reduce CO2 emissions by approximately 420 tonnes annually, equivalent to planting and growing 6,930 trees each year. It will also provide around 2 per cent of the plant's total energy needs each year. As Maxion expands its sustainability efforts, initiatives like these represent significant strides toward a cleaner, greener manufacturing model and a more sustainable future for everyone.

"Switch On" kickoff event

The "Switch On" kickoff event was attended by Zeferino Neto, Alexandre Becker, Operations Director for the Americas at Maxion Wheels, Juan Mortera, Plant Manager at Maxion Wheels Chihuahua, and Jorge Abraham Cicler Vadillo, Commercial Team Leader for the Western Region at Iberdrola México.

"Our Smart Solar system is an excellent option for our industrial clients to decarbonize their processes with photovoltaic energy, allowing businesses to not only be more efficient and cleaner but also to operate at more competitive costs. We are proud to partner with Maxion Wheels for a greener world," added Mr Cicler.
