In a recent announcement, Metro Mining Limited, a key player in the bauxite industry, proudly disclosed a noteworthy achievement in its operations despite facing a temporary setback due to Tropical Cyclone Jasper.

As of December 13, 2023, the company has successfully produced and shipped 4.51 million Wet Metric Tonnes (WMT) of bauxite since April 2023, meeting the lower range of their projected sales guidance for the 2023 operating season.

November was a standout month for Metro Mining, with a record-breaking 697,000 WMT shipped. Daily production rates aligned with the ambitious 7.0 million WMT per annum expansion rate set for 2024. This indicates a robust operational performance and a promising trajectory for the company's growth.

However, Metro Mining encountered a temporary hurdle in its operations due to Tropical Cyclone Jasper, impacting North Queensland. The cyclone led to adverse weather conditions, including strong winds and waves in the Gulf of Carpentaria. In response to safety concerns, on December 13, 2023, the company temporarily suspended its transhipping activities. The marine fleet was strategically moved into the Skardon River to mitigate risks.

Metro Mining highlights its commitment to safety and has chosen to pause transhipping operations until the weather conditions improve. Meteorological forecasts anticipate the adverse conditions to persist for an additional four to six days. Despite this temporary disruption, the company remains proactive, continuing its mining and screening operations throughout this period.

Metro Mining assures stakeholders of its readiness to resume shipping operations promptly once conditions allow. Bulk vessels are on standby, ready to be chartered to ensure a swift recovery. The company aims to resume shipping operations, weather permitting, potentially extending into the first week of January 2024.

Understanding the importance of transparent communication, the mining company has committed to providing regular updates as more information becomes available. This proactive approach aims to keep stakeholders well-informed about the company's progress, ensuring confidence in its resilience and commitment to safety.

Metro Mining's recent achievement in reaching the 4.5 million WMT bauxite milestone is a testament to its operational prowess. Despite the temporary disruption caused by Cyclone Jasper, the company's commitment to safety and proactive measures positions it for a swift recovery. As Metro Mining continues to navigate challenges, stakeholders can anticipate further updates to shed light on the company's resilience and future prospects.
