Ball Corporation, the global leader in innovative aluminium packaging, has unlocked another significant milestone by powering its Brazilian operations with 100 per cent renewable energy, six years ahead of its global deadline.
About the accomplishment
This was accomplished by purchasing renewable electrical energy, supported by I-REC certificates, ensuring 100 per cent of Brazil's electrical energy consumption is from renewable sources. With this achievement, Brazil joined Paraguay and Chile as the third country in South America to reach this goal.
Ball Corporation's global targets include reaching 75 per cent renewable energy usage by 2025 and achieving 100 per cent by 2030. This significant accomplishment not only highlights the leadership and dedication to implementing sustainable solutions but also brings hope for a greener future. It is a step towards a world without waste, thanks to their infinitely recyclable product.
"The Brazilian electricity network already stands out on the global stage, with 85% generation from renewable sources. However, this is not enough given our commitment to limiting global warming," said the sources.
Julia Pinto, Ball's sustainability and public relations leader for South America, stated that the pressing climate change scenario drives the accelerated achievement of these goals. According to the company, transitioning to 100 per cent renewable electricity can reduce the carbon footprint of aluminium beverage cans by up to 18 per cent, depending on the manufacturing region and type of packaging.
