MYTILINEOS S.A., a Greece-based industrial conglomerate, has bagged the ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard V1 (2017) Certification for its corporate headquarters and upstream activities, including bauxite mining, alumina refining, and aluminium smelting and casting.
{alcircleadd}The news came after the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) announced the successful certification of MYTILINEOS for bauxite mining activities at Distomon site; refining, smelting and casthouse activities at the Aluminium Of Greece Plant; port facilities at the Aluminium Of Greece Plant; and corporate headquarters at Athens.
The company’s upstream annual production capacity exceeds 198,000 tonnes of aluminium, 860,000 tonnes of alumina, and 630,000 tonnes of bauxite. In 2021, MYTILINEOS achieved the ASI Performance Standard Certification.
On receiving the certification, Mr Dimitrios Stefanidis, General Manager of MYTILINEOS’ Metallurgy Business Unit, stated: “We are very proud to achieve yet another prestigious ASI certification, this time in Chain of Custody, following on our Performance Standard certification. These certifications verify MYTILINEOS’ dedication to Sustainable Development and prove that the Metallurgy Business Unit is at the forefront of responsible material sourcing practices. MYTILINEOS is committed to become a global benchmark for Green Metallurgy by reducing the absolute emissions of the Metallurgy Business Unit by 65% and, respectively, the relative emissions by 75% (as measured per ton of aluminium produced) by 2030.”
Fiona Solomon, Chief Executive Officer at ASI, said: “We congratulate MYTILINEOS on achieving ASI CoC Certification for its headquarters and production operations from bauxite mining through to aluminium smelting and casting. The dual ASI Certification of MYTILINEOS’ own upstream value chain enables it to offer ASI Certified Aluminium products. But looking beyond the company’s integrated operations to examine external suppliers is also critical. MYTILINEOS’ responsible sourcing policy, alongside due diligence and risk evaluation procedures, are used to screen its critical suppliers and conduct risk assessments according to key ESG criteria, which, combined with ASI Certification, provides downstream customers the assurance of its responsible sourcing and production practices.”
The independent third party audit of MYTILINEOS S.A. Metallurgy Business Unit and headquarters was carried out by EUROCERT S.A.
