The strong interest confirms that Hydro is an attractive investment for bond investors. We are pleased to have achieved highly competitive terms,” said CFO Trond Olaf Christophersen.
A green Eurobond is a type of bond issued to fund environmentally friendly projects within the European Union (EU). The proceeds from green Eurobonds are used to finance projects contributing to a low-carbon economy. The funds raised from this bond issue will be allocated to eligible projects as outlined in Hydro’s Green and Sustainability-Linked Financing Framework, supporting Hydro’s strategy to accelerate the green aluminium transition.
The bonds will be listed on the Irish Stock Exchange (Euronext Dublin). Citi, Danske Bank, ING, J.P. Morgan, and SEB acted as Joint Lead Managers for the transaction.
Hydro’s 2030 environmental strategy and long-term ambitions focus on addressing several key challenges within the aluminium industry. The company aims to achieve no net biodiversity loss in new projects across its business areas. It has set longer-term goals to eliminate landfilling of recoverable waste and the need for permanent storage of bauxite residue.
Hydro’s sites adhere to their internal environmental management policies and procedures, supported by comprehensive health, safety, and environment (HSE) management systems, audit programmes, training, and awareness initiatives. Moreover, most of Hydro’s sites are ISO 14001 certified, with many also holding certification to the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative’s (ASI) Performance and Chain of Custody standards.
Hydro’s commitment to sustainability underpins its efforts to address the key environmental challenges of the aluminium industry while advancing its long-term strategy for a greener future.
