One of the biggest producers of abrasives in the world, Saint-Gobain Abrasives, unveiled its new ‘Norton for Aluminum’ thin wheels for the right angle grinding and cutting of aluminium and other soft non-ferrous metals.
This wheel is designed with high-quality, extra-friable, self-sharpening aluminium oxide grain and specialized bond technology for maximum performance. The redesigned wheels enable quick, aggressive cutting that resists loading and generates the least heat on the workpiece for dependable, long-lasting wheel performance.
With various features and advantages, Norton for Aluminum wheels includes a 5/8"- 11" hub for quick, tool-free wheel swaps. The new wheels have a contaminate-free bond that does not require additional waxes or lubricants, helping to maintain metal surfaces clean for defect-free, corrosion-free welding.
A double coarse layer structure also increases adaptability and durability for operations like back grinding and notching. The design of Norton for Aluminum wheels is sturdy and secure, satisfying all Norton American ANSI and global safety regulations.
“As the demand for lighter, stronger materials such as aluminum continues to grow, we are very pleased to offer customers a new, efficient cutting and grinding wheel solution that specifically addresses their application challenges. Norton for Aluminum wheels improve throughput and reduce scrap and downtime, saving costs,” said Bradley Povelaites, Manager, Product and Commercial Management, at Norton Saint-Gobain Abrasives.
Aluminium and metal fabrication, welding, shipbuilding, the automobile and transportation industry, aerospace, and construction are some important markets for Norton for Aluminum. Examples of applications include aluminium, cut-off, portable grinding, bevelling, notching, smoothing welds, and offhand stock removal.
