The Scandinavian country, Norway has installed a park bench which is now carrying the technology that permits for those sitting on it, can trace Wrexham firm played in its creation.
The park bench has digital product passports, containing verified information using Blockchain technology.
This digital passport helps the public easily see the life cycle and footprint of the aluminium and wood by scanning a QR code on the furniture.
These Blockchain technology labelled benches, along with tables and bins, are from a series called 'Folk' produced by Norwegian urban furniture manufacturer Vestre made of Hydro CIRCAL from Hydro Aluminium in Wrexham.
Anyone who visits the park scans the QR code and can see the metal travelling from Wrexham Industrial Estate to Magnor in Norway, on to Vestre’s factory in Sweden and finally to its home in a park in Husnes, in Western Norway.
The technology-backed innovative idea will support consumers make informed and sustainable choices by making information freely available.
Wayne Clifton, Hydro Aluminium Deeside managing director, said: "It’s both motivating and engaging to be part of this story.”
"We appreciate seeing the value of our work in producing Hydro CIRCAL from postconsumer scrap in Wrexham, being used in such products.”
"We look forward to working further with our customers on this exciting journey and seeing sustainability in action."
Hydro CIRCAL-branded aluminium uses a minimum of 75% postconsumer scrap which significantly reduces the carbon footprint of its products.
