Novelis, a subsidiary of multinational aluminium and copper manufacturing company Hindalco Industries has announced the launch of Novelis HRC57S®, an innovative, anodising quality aluminium product containing more than 90 per cent recycled scrap.
{alcircleadd}As claimed by Novelis, the product proves to be of superlative quality for decorative batch anodising with extra bending capacity and non-combustible properties which is not found in any other alloy of aluminium, till date. The new HRC57S® alloy had to go through a lot of tests and experimentations to ensure that the shine, colour and corrosion resistance concur with the standards of the architecture industry.
In 2021, Novelis Inc. introduced a high-recycled, pre-anodised product, HRC73A®, which has already been nominated for the prestigious German Innovation Awards, 2022. Like HRC57S®, it consists of more than 90 per cent recycled material to meet the low-carbon needs of the customer.
It can be stated that HRC57S® is a reformed version of the previous discovery. It is available in flat sheet and also as coils for further processing and batch anodising. It enables fabricators, façade installers, architects, builders and business owners to achieve more accuracy in their designs while lowering the carbon footprint on newly built or restored structures. In turn, the project becomes modern and sophisticated.
To meet customer demand for sustainable solutions, the company is introducing Novelis AL:sust, a ‘Novelis Europe Specialities’ family brand showcasing revolutionary low-carbon aluminium products with a recycled content of at least 80 per cent. Novelis HRC57S® and HRC73A® are the two primary members of the AL:sust family, with more products to be added in the future for innumerable end-use application.
Tom Boney, the Executive Vice and President of Novelis said, “Taking sustainability to the next level, products in the AL:sust™ family enable our customers to decarbonise their own products while maintaining rigorous quality, performance and safety standards”. He also added, “This exciting accomplishment with the portfolio demonstrates a continued focus on increasing recycled content in our aluminium products as we develop more sustainable solutions that will enable our customers to meet their goals for carbon reduction.”
A pioneer in aluminium recycling, Novelis Inc. has invested more than US$700 million over the last twenty years in recycling facilities worldwide, and has recently announced additional recycling investments of more than US$430 million. Leading with its circular business model, Novelis uses an average of 61 per cent recycled aluminium across a wide range of rolled products. The company’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 or sooner, as well as to reduce its carbon footprint by 30 per cent by 2026. It is focused on becoming the world’s largest provider of low-carbon, sustainable aluminium solutions so that it can advance its business and also the society towards a circular economy.
In December 2020, five years after the Paris Agreement, the Secretary-General of the United Nations António Guterres warned that the commitment made by 192 countries in Paris which is not sufficient and not at all respected. He has always urged all other countries to declare climate emergencies until carbon neutrality is reached therefore it is quite motivational to see Big Players carrying out the plan, it gives us hope.
