Novelis sets ambitious target with 3x30 Initiative, promoting circular economy and CO2 reduction

Novelis Inc., the premier manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminium goods and the global leader in aluminium rolling and recycling, has unveiled a new sustainability initiative designed to promote aluminium as the preferred material for circular solutions. Under the Novelis 3x30 Initiative, the company is committed to establishing ambitious carbon-related sustainability goals and pinpointing priorities to enhance its decarbonisation and circularity efforts.

The Novelis 3x30 Initiative builds on the company's prior sustainability accomplishments, which include a 10 percentage point increase in average recycled content and a 27 per cent reduction in carbon emissions for fiscal year (FY) 2024 compared to its FY16 baseline. These achievements have positioned Novelis at the forefront of the industry, boasting an average recycled content of 63 per cent.

The rising consumer demand for sustainable products fuels the need for lower-carbon solutions, particularly in automotive, beverage, food and cosmetics packaging, building and construction, and aerospace. The company is confident that its 3x30 vision will accelerate its customers' sustainability efforts by concentrating on three key objectives to be achieved by the end of 2030.

The objectives are:

• Advancing the use of recycled materials in our products, we aim to boost our average recycled content to 75%, up from the current 63%.
• Novelis aims to establish itself as the leading low-emissions provider of flat-rolled aluminium products, achieving less than 3 tonnes of CO2e per tonne of flat-rolled product shipped.
• Continuing first-mover investments to lead the industry to circularity.
