To commemorate its 'Protect Our Planet' sustainability drive, Nuvoco Vistas Corp Ltd, the fifth largest cement organisation in India and one of the biggest cement producers in the East, has complemented its logistics fleet with new modernised aluminium body trucks.
{alcircleadd}The aluminium required in making the trucks has arrived from Hindalco Industries Limited, India's leading aluminium and copper manufacturer. The exceptional design of these trucks adds value to Nuvoco's transportation facility and makes the company's supply chain more advanced.
Usually, trucks made of aluminium are lightweight due to the non-ferrous metal's inbuilt property, and they help in increasing the mileage by cutting down fuel consumption, ultimately downsizing carbon emissions to a great extent.
Moreover, aluminium doesn't rust and is anti-corrosive, which finally amounts to a longer lifespan for automobiles. Aluminium is an infinitely recyclable material that can retain its original characteristics even after going through the transformation process.
In the Financial Year 2022, Nuvoco's direct carbon emissions resulted in 478 kg CO2 per tonne of cement-based products, which in comparison is lesser than the international average of 580 kg CO2 per tonne and the Indian average of 560 kg CO2 per tonne.
This sustainability move by Nuvoco would save almost 28 tonnes of carbon emitted per vehicle all throughout its life cycle due to the containment of extreme fuel use. Through this initiative, the company will primarily look after environment conservation and curtail its indirect emissions.
The Managing Director of Nuvoco Vistas Corp. Ltd, Jayakumar Krishnaswamy, exclaimed: "A key component of Nuvoco's sustainability roadmap is its approach to decarbonisation. As part of our carbon reduction strategy, we focus on several initiatives that will reduce direct emissions as well as indirect emissions."
"The collaboration between Nuvoco and Hindalco is a major step in reducing indirect emissions. A total of 15 Aluminium trucks will hit the road in Phase 1, and the number will be increased in Phase 2 based on on-road performance. At the end of its lifetime, aluminium is fully recyclable, contributing to the circular economy," he added with pride.
