According to the International Aluminium Institute, primary aluminium production in North America stood at 315,000 tonnes in August 2021, which was down by 18,000 tonnes or 5.41 per cent from 333,000 tonnes in July. In June 2021, primary aluminium output in North America stood at 328,000 tonnes, meaning the production in July increased by 5,000 tonnes or 1.52 per cent month-on-month.
On a year-on-year calculation, North America’s aluminium production in August decreased by 16,000 tonnes or 4.83 per cent from 331,000 tonnes.
In the first eight months of 2021, primary aluminium production in North America stood at 2.323 million tonnes, down by 12.64 per cent from 2.659 million tonnes during the same period last year.
Primary aluminium production in South America stood at 101,000 tonnes in August 2021, reflecting an increase of 3,000 tonnes or 3.06 per cent from 98,000 tonnes in July. In June 2021, South America produced 96,000 tonnes, meaning the output in July grew by 2,000 tonnes month-on-month.
On a year-on-year calculation, primary aluminium production in South America during August 2021 rose 17,000 tonnes or 20.24 per cent from 84,000 tonnes.
In the first eight months of the year, primary aluminium production in South America totalled 1.623 million tonnes, up by 146.66 per cent from 658,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
