For the entire year of 2025, the company has set a target of shipping 6.5 to 7 million WMT bauxite. In order to achieve this, the company is focused on leveraging strategic offtake agreements as well as maintaining an industry-leading cost position despite volatile market conditions.
Comparison with 2024
On January 6, 2025, Metro Mining Limited reported that its total capacity for shipping bauxite for the year would be 7 million WMT. As of 2024, the company had shipped a total of 58.7 million WMT bauxite, marking a growth of 24 per cent from the previous year.
Moreover, the company aimed to load its first shipment on March 17, 2025, with a market capitalisation of USD 328.9 million. This has been significantly possible for the company because of some key improvements. Some of these improvements included the installation of a new wobble circuit as well as the implementation of Ikamba systems. Onboarding of these systems has supported the organisation to manage wet ore conditions alongside mitigating environmental risks.
Target for 2025
As of now, the company is focused on engaging in a multi-cargo contract with Emirates Global Aluminium. Alongside this, multi-cargo offtake agreement engagement with Xinfa Aluminium Group, Shadhong Lubei Enterprise Group and Chalco for bauxite shipments.
With the fine output received by the company in the last two quarters of 2024, it is expected to have a higher cash flow capacity in 2025. Moreover, in 2025, the contract prices of bauxite have increased from that of 2024 and are predicted to climb up further.
This creates an opportunity for the company to provide bauxite supply to China whose bauxite supply, currently, is not in line with its aluminium industry growth rate. Apart from China, Metro Mining can also ship its bauxite to other companies like Malaysia, Indonesia, the Middle East and India.
