Rimowa and RTFKT unveils limited edition Metaverse Phygital suitcase featuring anodized aluminium

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Rimowa, the high-quality luggage manufacturer, has collaborated with digital fashion company RTFKT to bring its renowned luggage brand to the metaverse via two NFT (non-fungible tokens) drops. Together, they have unveiled a line of 888 limited-edition luggage, which are only available through purchases of NFTs. The Rimowa X RTFKT collaboration's Original Cabin suitcase has the model's unique grooves and is built of premium anodized aluminium, making it incredibly light.

As a result of the partnership, 2,222 "WorkerBot" NFTs will be made available. The luggage will be available in physical and digital forms (thus the term "Phygital"). To mint their NFTs, users must reactivate a Rimowa x RTFKT space station. Then there is a "forging" event where owners of NFT may come and use it to purchase a limited-edition Rimowa luggage.

"Working with Rimowa has been a dream of ours since day one. Who wouldn't be honoured to be able to bring their iconic designs into our world and create a spaceship, robot and travel tools for Web3 builders and hackers? We really put all our passion into this project, while pushing boundaries in terms of the minting experience, 3D space and draw-to-raffle system," said Benoit Pagotto, co-founder of RTFKT.

The traditional metal shell of the RTFKT x RIMOWA "Meta Artisan" Original Cabin luggage will take shape, this time coated in pixelated patterns. This "Wandersmith" Anti-FUD pattern print has variations of the duo's iconography. The design is inspired by the secrecy and pseudonymity that characterize a large portion of the digital world, particularly in the metaverse.

Future of the Global Aluminium Castings Industry

“Pushing boundaries isn’t something we shy away from at RIMOWA. So we were very excited to work on this collaboration with RTFKT and create something new that can live both in the metaverse and the physical world. It’s an opportunity to showcase our German craftsmanship in a new way and truly engage with the Web3 community,” said Emelie de Vitis, CMO RIMOWA.
