Romet strengthens position in Europe's bicycle sector with in-house aluminium frame production

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Romet's integrated facility for aluminium frame production, painting, and assembly gives it a unique edge in Europe's bicycle manufacturing sector. Five years after launch, the factory operates at full capacity, offering logistical advantages over competitors importing frames from Asia. Despite this, Romet still paints large quantities of Asian-sourced frames due to limited in-house capacity.

"Our goal is to focus on e-bike frame production and accelerate innovations," says Wiesław Grzyb, the brand's President. Proximity between frame production and assembly lines remains a key competitive advantage.

The company sources high-quality aluminium 6061 from two Polish suppliers. Processes like laser cutting, hydroforming, and robotic welding are completed in-house, ensuring precision and consistency. An in-house testing lab imposes stricter benchmarks than the EN15194 standard, guaranteeing durability and quick market adaptation.

Romet employs water-based paints, recycles production waste, and powers operations with renewable energy, adhering to circular economy principles and reducing environmental impact.

A recent €23 million investment aims to modernise production through automation, digitalisation, and R&D. Plans include automated lines, advanced ERP systems, and big data tools for supply chain efficiency. The business is also advancing battery technology for improved e-bike performance.

Their facilities produce 2,400 bikes daily and generate over €150 million annually. The company plans to expand its Polish retail network to 100 stores by 2030 and increase its presence in Central Europe, targeting markets like the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Market challenges persist, with retailers cautious about large pre-orders amid price volatility. "The market has shifted to a buyer's market," Grzyb notes.

Romet has a focus on sustainability, innovation, and quality, which positions it strongly in the competitive European bicycle market, with a clear strategy for growth and adaptation to evolving market dynamics.
