The Russian aluminium giant and the sole primary aluminium producer in Russia, RUSAL, revealed its updated corporate Environmental Policy.
The Environmental policy sets the company goal as “Creating a fundamentally new approach to production to meet the principles of the green economy” and for this purpose, RUSAL will pursue leveraging the best available technologies and innovations, striving to harmonize the company's development while mitigating adverse environmental impacts.
An essential fundamental of a green economy is decoupling economic growth from environmental impact. According to the updated Environmental Policy, this is the way Rusal will follow to build a brand-new class of sustainable metallurgical production. It will be accompanied by:
Evgenii Nikitin, the CEO of RUSAL, commented, “In 2022, the Board of RUSAL signed off several important policies and standards related to sustainable development. These are the biodiversity policy, the industrial waste management strategy and the occupational health and safety strategy. The updated corporate Environmental Policy is one of the most important among them. It defines our efforts and development in such an important direction as reducing the environmental impact and improving the quality of life in the cities of the Company’s responsibility.”
“In addition, the updated Environmental Policy of Rusal is now based on global sustainable development principles and the corporate ESG strategy adopted this year. We are fully aware of our responsibility towards society and our team members. Despite unprecedented external challenges, we will achieve the goal set out in the Environmental Policy.”
