Pepsi is continuing its 125th-anniversary celebration by returning with Shaquille O'Neal, whose many Pepsi ads pleased and surprised customers during the 1990s, in a new campaign emphasising Pepsi Mini aluminium cans as the ideal complement for snack and dinner situations. In the new commercial, Shaq wishes he could be "a little bit smaller" when confronted with the hazards of his larger-than-life stature to celebrate that Pepsi Mini Cans are always the ideal size.
"As a longtime partner of the brand, I always have a great time working with Pepsi. It was incredibly fun to create the 'I Wish' commercial, showing how things could be better if I were indeed a little bit smaller. With Pepsi Mini Cans, I can enjoy every sip and appreciate the little things in life," said Shaquille O'Neal.
The advertisement "I Wish" depicts Shaq in several settings where a uniform solution proves inadequate. These scenarios range from his struggle to find comfort in aeroplane seats to the challenge of fitting into a bed without his feet protruding or just navigating through doors with ease. The emotional and humorous aspects of the advertisement are intensified by the inclusion of Skee-Lo, who delivers revised lyrics to satirise his renowned 1995 hip-hop track, "I Wish I Was A Little Bit Taller."
Taking cues from previous collaborations between Pepsi and Shaquille O'Neal, particularly the 1994 "Big Slam" advertisement, the comedic contrast of an oversized Shaq expressing dissatisfaction with trivial aspects of life does not hinder his endorsement of Pepsi Mini Cans. This demonstrates that Pepsi Minis are suitable for various circumstances despite their diminutive size.
