Sohar Aluminium (SA), one of the first aluminium smelter in the Sultanate of Oman has become the “Production and Transformation Member” in ASI or the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative, further enhancing and increasing their firm commitment towards Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG). The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global non-profit standard settings and certification organisations for the Aluminium industry. With this, Sohar Aluminium joins around 190 global producers, users, downstream, upstream, stakeholders and also supporters of the aluminium value chain.
{alcircleadd}The Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) is one of the most vital and trending standards and measures of success for various profit and non-profit companies, including the government. ESG is a very common term used in the capital market as well as by the investors to understand the behaviour of an organisation, predict their sustainability and also evaluate their future financial performance.
According to Al Masoudi, the CEO of Sohar Aluminium, “We have always sought to establish partnerships with renowned and well-recognised global aluminium organisations. We truly believe that these partnerships strengthen our position as a producer of primary aluminium.”
He also added, “We have always been mindful and acted in favour of protecting the environment, adopting & implementing high standards in terms of working conditions for our workforce, maintaining excellent relations with our stakeholders, and committing to transparent policies and moral responsibilities, all of which are summarised under the ESG Standards. Joining the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative is a commitment of our pledge to continue to apply these standards in everything we do that will ensure our sustainability and create a better future for the coming generations.”
In June 2021, Sohar Aluminium participated in the Gulf Aluminium Council’s ESG Week by carrying out internal activities and also taking part in regional workshops which had employees and executives from different other members of the council.
