The first batch of cathode sets for the Indonesia Beijia electrolytic aluminium project, supplied by Shenyang Institute, was successfully shipped from Lianyungang on Friday January 10, 2025. The project is a joint venture between Indonesia's Adaro Group and China's Liqin Resources, with Shenyang Institute overseeing the engineering design.
The 500kA electrolytic cell features key technical equipment, including the cathode carbon block group, which incorporates Shenyang Institute’s latest energy-saving technology. Since 2013, Shenyang Institute has been dedicated to the research, development, and design of a new energy-saving cathode group for aluminium electrolytic cells.
Grounded in the theory of interface fluctuation, this technology optimises the cathode group’s conductive structure to minimise horizontal current in the liquid aluminium. As a result, it effectively reduces the vertical magnetic field, disturbance electromagnetic force, static electromagnetic force at the interface, and interface deformation.
Additionally, the implementation of cathode preheating temperature uniformity control technology ensures a 100 per cent casting success rate. This innovation significantly lowers horizontal current and cathode voltage drop in the aluminium liquid within the electrolytic cell, extends cathode lifespan, and enhances overall economic efficiency.
This successful shipment represents Shenyang Institute’s largest overseas supply of cathode groups in recent years, highlighting the international recognition of its proprietary technology and reinforcing its position as a global leader.
