Japanese multinational brewing and distilling company Suntory Holdings will be using the world's first 100 per cent recycled aluminium cans for its limited edition of The Premium Malt's CO2 Reduction Can (350ml, 5.5% ABV) and The Premium Malt's "Kaoru" Ale CO2 Reduction Can (350ml, 6% ABV). These cans will be sold in stores across Japan in a limited quantity starting on Tuesday, September 6th.
The Suntory Group seeks to foster a circular economy and considers the environmental impact of packaging and containers across the complete product life cycle, from product design through transportation and recycling after consumption.
UACJ Corporation and Toyo Seikan Group Holdings, Ltd. collaborated to produce industry-first, 100 per cent recycled aluminium cans, which emit 60 per cent less CO2 during production than a typical aluminium can.
“We are delighted that the three companies were able to take on the challenge to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the value chain and achieve this goal. We will continue to work together with all members of the value chain and promote various initiatives to realize a circular society,” said Masaaki Fujiwara, Deputy Division COO, and Sustainability Management Division Leader at Suntory Holdings.
To help create a society focused on recycling and reducing carbon emissions, the firm launched the "Suntory Group Plastic Policy" for PET bottles, especially in 2019. The Suntory Group will continue to use ecologically friendly packaging and container materials, as well as more energy-efficient technologies and renewable energy, to lower GHG emissions along the whole value chain.
The Suntory Group, a multinational beverage corporation whose success is based on natural resources like water and agricultural goods, has as its corporate objective "To build harmony with people and environment," the realisation of a sustainable society. The Suntory Group has set a goal to cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by half in its direct operations and by 30 per cent throughout the whole value chain by 2030 to reach net zero GHG emissions across the entire value chain by 2050.
