On 8th December’20, the new production plant for aluminium food containers and packaging products “Stobia” located on Chapais Street in Jonquière, Quebec begins its production.
William Allard, the president of the new company explains that Stobia wants to find its place in the food processing, restaurant and grocery markets. The objective for the first year of activity is to manufacture 100 million containers.
Stobia proffers a wide range of products that start from take-out food containers, through classic aluminium plates, to serving dishes.
Allard said: “Our products have been designed taking into account the needs of the Quebec and Canadian markets. We are the only Quebec manufacturer of this type of product. In the past, the market we serve was dependent on foreign distributors who more or less took local needs into account.”
The entrepreneur also stipulates that the containers manufactured by Stobia stand out for their design and quality, in a sector where products are standardized and do not always meet the requirements of those who buy them.
In the coming week, the first containers bearing the Stobia brand should reach consumers. William Allard expects higher sales volumes and a presence with major distributors in the coming months.
“Tests are always carried out with customers to enter into partnerships”, he said.
“The big advantage for us was to benefit from the know-how and the experience of the region to transform aluminium. We had support on the technical and strategic side. It allowed us to have a good understanding of the issues related to this area", explains William Allard about the assistance received by Rio Tinto, the Société de la Vallée de l'aluminium and Promotion Saguenay, which put in 65,000 $ in the project.
