The US exports of aluminium scrap stood at 140,000 tonnes in December 2019, according to the latest report from the US Geological Survey. Exports dropped by 7.28% from November’s export of 151,000 tonnes and 10.83% from October’s export of 157,000 tonnes. The US exports of aluminium scrap have been declining month-on-month. On a year-on-year basis, exports reduced by 16.17%.
For the full year 2019, the US exported 1.86 million tonnes of aluminium scrap, an increase of 5.68% from 1.76 million tonnes in 2018.
{alcircleadd}The leading destinations for aluminium scrap were China, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea, India, and Mexico, receiving 17%, 16%, 15%, 15%, and 10%, respectively.
China imported 316,000 tonnes of aluminium from the U.S. during January-December 2019. In December alone, imports came in at 2,960 tonnes. That was down 46.08% from November’s imports of 5,490 tonnes and 56.21% from October’s import of 6,760 tonnes.
Malaysia stood second with the import of 290,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2019. Imports increased by 49% from 195,000 tonnes in 2018. In December, imports stood at 32,500 tonnes, a drop of 21.69% from November and 18.95% from October.
The Republic of Korea stood third in the list with the import of 273,000 tonnes in 2019. Imports were 241,000 tonnes in 2018. The Republic of Korea imported 22,900 tonnes of aluminium in December, with a month-on-month drop of 0.43%.
India imported 271,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in 2019 as compared to 216,000 tonnes in 2018. This marked an increase of 25.46% year-on-year. Aluminium scrap imports came in at 30,800 tonnes in December 2019. Imports climbed by 42.59% year-on-year and 31.62% month-on-month. Mexico’s import of aluminium scraps from the US came in at 186,000 tonnes in 2019. In December 2019, imports decreased by 20.12% month-on-month to 13,100 tonnes.
