Trek Bikes has recently launched the third generation of its Émonda ALR series, Émonda ALR 5, one of the lightest aluminium road bikes. The new Émonda ALR frameset employs the same racing geometry as Trek's carbon road cycles and includes integrated cables and Kammtail tube profiles.
{alcircleadd}The bike will be offered in two versions, the ALR 5 and ALR 6, as well as a frameset. Trek switches from the press-fit bottom bracket used on the previous Émonda ALR to a threaded T47 bottom bracket in line with its other new cycles.
The Trek Émonda ALR 5 is claimed to weigh 9 kg, and the ALR 6 is expected to weigh 8.8 kg when fully assembled. According to Trek, the Émonda ALR is constructed from ultra-light 300 Series Alpha Aluminum.
Alpha Aluminum was created to develop more flexible frameworks with the same acceleration and cost. Trek can fine-tune frames to be stiff where required and compliant where feasible by adopting a comprehensive strategy to frame design and building.
"Tubeless ready-tyres, rim strips, sealant, and valve stems must be purchased separately to make the conversion to tubeless," stated Trek.
Trek's Invisible Weld technology gives the chassis a carbon-like appearance. The ALR 5 that we got for evaluation has clean lines. The bike has incorporated wires and casings and Kammtail aero frame shaping and is said to have better aerodynamics than the ALR it replaces.
