TRIMET Aluminium SE announced it has signed a joint venture agreement with Bohai Automotive Systems Co., Ltd (Bohai) for the materials specialist’s Automotive Division. Bohai Automotive will hold the TRIMET Automotive Holding GmbH, which along with its subsidiaries at the plants in Harzgerode and Sömmerda manufactures die-casting components for vehicle construction.
“The goal of the joint venture with Bohai is to strengthen the international orientation of the Automotive Division as a system supplier for the globally operating automobile manufacturers, for whom China is a particularly important growth market. With the joint venture TRIMET is effectively strengthening its automotive plants in Harzgerode and Sömmerda, making the jobs there future-proof,” according to company’s press release.
China based Bohai Automotive Systems Co., Ltd. manufactures and sells pistons. Pistons are used in passenger and commercial, engineering, marine, agriculture, general motor and other vehicles.
TRIMET Automotive supplies bespoke solutions and light constructional components. At its Harzgerode and Sömmerda plants a total of more than 1,000 employees produce approximately 13 million die-cast components per year, including mechatronic parts for automatic transmissions of the latest generation, structural components, motor blocks, and gearboxes.
Last month, TRIMET Aluminium announced that they are seeking a partner for its automobile aluminium products business. Executive board member Thomas Reuther said that “the problem is that automobile producers want platform suppliers with a global organisation, especially with a presence in North America or China.”
