The Germany-based aluminium alloy producing and casting company Trimet Aluminium SE is reportedly focusing in aluminium recycling and about to launch a broad range of products and services at the Aluminium Trade Fair this year. It has invested in the modernisation of recycling plants in Gelsenkirchen and Harzgerode with the aim to ensure more productivity and sustainable use of resources.
Annually, the company produces around 235,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium and recycling them further is important to meet the rising demand for aluminium.
This year and next, the family business will invest a single-digit million euro in both technical equipment and environmental protection measures, focusing primarily on improved productivity and energy efficiency.
In Gelsenkirchen, Trimet will install a new rotary drum furnace with a capacity of around 40 tonnes, which will reduce energy requirements by 15 per cent, increase the proportion of recovered metals, enable quicker filling, and enhance the quantity of material per melting process. Replacing two existing furnaces, this new one is expected to start operating by the end of 2018. The Harzgerode recycling site will receive a new hearth shaft furnace in September 2018, which also comes with innovative burner technology and a capacity of melting 3 tonnes per house.
Besides this, Trimet is also investing in environmental improvements and occupational safety at both locations. In Harzgeorde, the storage bins for scrap metal will be expectedly covered by mid-2019.
