EDITED BY : 1MINS READ

Uber has planned to add 3,000 electric vehicles and e-rickshaws to its fleet by the end of 2021. For this, the company may enter into agreement with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) for charging and battery swapping, and fleets and financiers, Mint reported.

“As of now, we plan to have approximately 3K EVs and erickshaws (across two, three and four-wheelers) on our platform by the end of 2021,” said Prabhjeet Singh, president, mobility, Uber India and South Asia.

The company already added 100 e-rickshaws in Delhi and 500 in Kolkata in November. Uber also plans to expand to Tier-II cities and reach 200 cities by December-end.

“EV-friendly policies and targets by the Centre and states such as Delhi and Telangana will translate into sales in the near future,” according to the company.

Uber has partnered with green technologies service Lithium for over 1,000 EVs across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. The company has also teamed up with startups Yulu, Mahindra and Sun Mobility for battery swapping.
