The United States import of crude and dried bauxite further decreased on quarter and stood at 695,000 tonnes in Q1 2021 ended on March 31, found the Geological Survey data. The import plunged by 82,000 tonnes or 10.55 per cent from 777,000 tonnes in Q4 2020. On a year-on-year calculation, the United States’ crude and dried bauxite imports in Q1 2021 stood 80,000 tonnes or 10.32 per cent lower than 775,000 tonnes.
{alcircleadd}Jamaica supplied 639,000 tonnes of bauxite in the first quarter, remaining the primary exporter to the US. But the export volume decreased 89,000 tonnes or 12.23 per cent from 728,000 tonnes in Q4 2020. However, year-on-year, it represented an increase of 85,000 tonnes or 15.34 per cent from 554,000 tonnes.
Turkey emerged as the second-largest exporter of crude and dried bauxite to the US, supplying 56,500 tonnes in Q1 2021. In Q4 2020, bauxite export from Turkey to the US stood nil, while in Q3 came in at 60,700 tonnes and in Q2 35,000 tonnes. This shows Turkey’s crude and dried bauxite exports to the US declined 6.92 per cent in Q1 2021 from Q3 2020 but increased 61.43 per cent from Q2 2020.
In the entire year of 2020, the United States imported 3.180 million tonnes of crude and dried bauxite, which reflected a decrease of 14.29 per cent from 3.710 million tonnes in 2019.
