Austria-based company HPW Metallwerk GmbH (HPW) has officially commenced mass production for its latest line of aluminium high-performance wires, commonly referred to as aluminium busbars. These patented busbars have been specifically designed to enhance the efficiency of electric vehicles (EVs) by acting as connectors for various electrical components, including battery modules.
{alcircleadd}Before initiating this production rollout, HPW conducted thorough customer sampling to assess the product's performance. Concurrently, the company adapted its production processes to incorporate aluminium alongside copper. With an ambitious vision, HPW aims to substantially increase its production capacity to meet the imminent demand for thousands of metric tonnes of aluminium busbars shortly.
The revolutionary busbars weigh up to 50 per cent less than traditional flat conductors while maintaining an equivalent level of electrical conductivity. This unique characteristic provides tangible advantages for vehicle performance, especially in battery-electric heavy-duty transport, where weight plays a critical role.
The anticipated sales for HPW's new busbars will reach the double-digit million euro range in the forthcoming years. This financial projection underscores the company's dedication to advancing technology in the e-mobility sector and anticipates substantial demand for these lightweight, efficient connectors.
