According to the latest Geological Survey data, the United States in July 2020 imported 84,300 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars, 9,800 tonnes or 13.15 per cent higher than 74,500 tonnes in June. In May, the United States aluminium semis imports were 68,500 tonnes, meaning the imports in June saw an increase of 8.76 per cent month-on-month. The imports in May also saw a hike of 41.53 per cent from 48,400 tonnes in April.

The total aluminium semis imports by the United States in the entire seven months (January to July) of the year stood at 646,000 tonnes, up by 124,000 tonnes or 23.75 per cent from 522,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
The United States aluminium semis imports in July 2020 grew by only 300 tonnes when compared to the imports during same period last year. In July 2019, the US had imported 74,200 tonnes of aluminium plates, sheets and bars.
Canada was the leading exporter of aluminium semis to the US in July 2020, supplying 18,000 tonnes, up by 2,700 tonnes or 17.65 per cent month-on-month from 15,300 tonnes but down by 12,200 tonnes or 40.40 per cent from 30,200 tonnes year-on-year.
In the entire seven months, Canada’s aluminium plates, sheets and bars exports to the US totalled 116,000 tonnes, down by 41.41 per cent from 198,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
