US aluminium scrap imports from Canada recovered in May 2023 after a drop in the previous month. According to the US Census Bureau data, the import volume increased 6.99 per cent month-on-month to reach 35,200 tonnes in the said month. In April, the United States aluminium scrap imports from Canada stood at 32,900 tonnes, down by 5.19 per cent from 34,700 tonnes in March.
However, despite the monthly gain, the United States aluminium scrap imports from Canada edged a fall of 3.03 per cent from 36,300 tonnes in May 2022. On the other hand, the accumulated import volume during the first five months of 2023 reflected a rise of 8.5 per cent year-on-year to 166,000 tonnes from 153,000 tonnes.
According to the US Census Bureau data, the United States' year-to-date aluminium scrap imports from Canada trended up, starting at 31,800 tonnes, followed by 31,400 tonnes in February. In March, the import volume jumped by 10.51 per cent to 34,700 tonnes.
Similarly, the United States' total aluminium scrap imports had risen through the year, reaching 67,600 tonnes in May 2023. On a month-on-month basis, the import volume stood 18.39 per cent higher than 57,100 tonnes, following a drop of 2.06 per cent in the previous month.
In five months, the United States imported 286,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap, which reflected an increase of 6.32 per cent from 269,000 tonnes.
