In July 2023, the United States domestic primary aluminium production amounted to 64,000 tonnes, up by 2,000 tonnes or 3.23 per cent month-on-month, found the US Census Bureau data. However, the output increased in July following a drop of 4.62 per cent in June from 65,000 tonnes to 62,000 tonnes.
On a year-on-year calculation, the United States primary aluminium production during July 2023 stood restrained at 64,000 tonnes, showed USGS.
The average daily production in July was recorded at 2,060 tonnes, essentially unchanged compared to 2,080 tonnes a month ago and 2,070 tonnes a year earlier.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in July 2023 was 274,000 tonnes – 2.84 per cent less than 282,000 tonnes in June and 3.52 per cent down from 284,000 tonnes in July 2022. Of the total scrap recovered, 143,000 tonnes was recovered from new scrap and 131,000 tonnes from old scrap.
The July 2023 average US spot market price of primary aluminium ingot was $1.21 per pound, slightly less than that in June 2023 and 12 per cent down from July 2022. The average cash price in July 2023 of primary aluminium ingot on the London Metal Exchange (LME) was $0.98 per pound, essentially unchanged from that in June 2023 and 10 per cent less than in July 2022.
Inventories of primary aluminum in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States were 3,224 tonnes at the end of July 2023, unchanged from that at the end of June 2023. Inventories of secondary aluminum (North American Secondary Aluminum Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States were 660 tonnes at the end of July 2023, 27 per cent less than at the end of June 2023.
